Jack Ma came from humble beginnings and openly admits his struggles and how they have shaped him. For example, he was the only one in 24 applicants that did not get a job at KFC. Despite this, Ma took an approach to learn from his rejections and never gave up, and in 1995 was introduced to computers and the internet.
One of the first things he searched for was ‘Beer’ which showed the option to buy beer from around the world, although he noticed there was a country missing - China. He realised this was an opportunity to get China on the internet which led to his first start-up, Alibaba, which is one of the largest e-commerce giants globally with a strong customer centric-approach.
Jack is an inspirational character as, despite Alibaba’s growth, he remains humble and keeps to his original principles, focusing on more than just profit to deliver a successful business.
If you don’t give up, you still have a chance. Giving up is the greatest failure.
